The Sire is a copper/yellow HMPK which became 1st placed in the Asymmetrical Halfmoon Plakat males - Darkbody Multicolor showclass at the Holland Betta Show 2012. He has a strong body and balanced overall appearance. His dorsal fin is broad-based with the front rays nicely directed forward. The caudal fin has a very good spread. Points of attention are the corners of the caudal fin which ideally could be sharper. The Dame is the results of a new line in my own fishroom. She has a compact, balanced appearance with a very good D-shaped caudal and an incredible nice colorpattern.
With this outcross I hope to fix the strong bodies and overall balance.
The offspring (F1) will most likely be metallic steel blue or copper based with likely a red/yellow/orange wash.

31/08/12: The pair spawned, the nest if full with eggs. The males is taking excellent care.
01/09/12: The fry hatched. There are defenitely 100+ fry!

02/09/12: The fry entered the free-swimming stage. Removed the male.
07/09/12: The fry is now 1 week old and feeding well on BBS.

04/11/12: The fry is now 9 weeks old. To be honest I am not sure what to think of this spawn. I'm quite dissapointed with the dorsals so far and I have been culling quite some fish showing extremely short bodies, extreme branching, severe scaling problems and missing in the last weeks. Let's see how the remaining fish will develop................

07/12/12: Decided to cull this entire spawn because of the high percentage of fish showing serious defaults. This is never easy to do but sometimes inevitable. I just do not want to continue with fish carrying these problems nor do I want to pass such fish on to other hobbyists.

I guess this has been one of these spawns which just does not work out the way you wanted it to be.............
