The Sire is cambodian-based extended red HMPK with a strong body. He has a a very nice shaped, broad dorsal and full ventral fins. The caudal fin has a good 180 degree spread with nice long outer rays. The anal fin is nicely parallel to the body. His color is really intense red with hardly any signs of iridescence. His brothers and sisters were very succesful at the Holland Betta Show 2011. The Dame is a cambodian-based extended red HMPK which became 2nd placed in the HMPK female - Unicolor (non-iridescent) class at the Holland Betta Show 2011 (click here). The grandmother of the Dame is from (BT171008B) and the grandmother of the Dame is the mother of my 100th spawn (BT051010).
With this cross I hope to fix the strong bodies & quality finnage as well as the intense red color of the male.
The offspring (F1) will be cambodian based red HM PKs with a small chance of HMDTPKs popping up.

29/08/11: The pair spawned!
30/08/11: The fry hatched.

31/08/11: The fry entered the free-swimming stage. Removed the male.

04/09/11: The fry is feeding well on BBS.

09/10/11: The fry is now 5 weeks old and growing well. Spotted several DTs.

19/10/11: The fry is now 7 weeks old.

03/12/11: The fry is now 15 weeks old. The fry is starting to show an intense red color. Some fry do show quite some iridescence which is most likely inherited from the Dame as the Sire almost did not show any iridescence on the body. Overall this spawn shows a good potential but the challenge for the future generation will be to combine the desired bodyshape, broad-based dorsals which are directed forward (without short first rays), D-shaped caudals and parallel anal finnage in one single fish.
