The Sire is a strong-bodied (metallic?) blue/red HMPK (with a slight white edge around the finnage) with a nice mouth-to-dorsal topline. His dorsal is directed forward with a nicely long first ray. The caudal fin has a good 180 degree spread with nice straight outer rays. Even though the anal fin is slightly too long in comparison with the rest of the finnage, it shows a great shape with the front nicely directed forward. This male has some very large pectoral fins (also referred to as "dumbo/big ears") which nicely match the rest of his finnage. The dame is a blue/red (slight butterfly edge) HMPK with a strong body and smooth mouth-to-dorsal topline. Her finnage is nicely compact and balanced with a nice D-shaped caudal, broad-based dorsal and relatively parallel anal fin.
With respect to the large pectorals ("dumbo/big ears"), I am not sure if I really like this trait or not. With this cross I hope to get more insight in how the trait for large pectorals is inherited and how it determines the size of the pectorals. I expect that this trait is recessive and with this cross I hope to confirm this hypothesis. In addition, I hope to fix the strong bodies, smooth topline, balanced finnage. T
he offspring (F1) will most likely be both light- and darkbodied HMPKs with a varying distribution of red and blue and normal sized pectoral fins.

The Dame is also mother of: BT141212.

14/02/13: The pair spawned.
15/02/13: The fry hatched. The sire is taking an excellent job! Looks like there are >50 fry.

18/02/13: The fry entered the free-swimming stage. Removed the male.
19/02/13: The fry is feeding well on vinegar eels and BBS.
02/05/13: The fry is now 11 weeks old.

14/06/13: The fry is now 17 weeks old. They fish are developing slowly but well. So fare I have not spotted any males. All the fish show normal pectoral fins which seems to confirm that large pectorals ('big ears/dumbo') is a recessive trait.
