The Sire is a 'Green' HMPK with nice asymmetrical HMPK form! He has a nice bodyshape with balanced finnage. The dame is a full-mask royal blue HMPK with an amazing color and promising finnage.

The genetic make-up of the 'green' phenotype of the male at the moment is not clear to me but he could have a turquoise or royal blue base with chance that the metallic trait is involved. The offspring of this cross might give a bit more information about the genetic make-up of the parents.

With this cross I hope to fix the strong bodies, the smooth topline and the balanced finnage. The offspring (F2) depending on the genetic make up of the male can range from non-metallic and/or metallic turquoise, royal blue and steel blue based HMPK with a chance of red wash and marble to pop up.

13/11/21: The pair spawned.
14/11/21: The fry hatched.
15/11/21: The fry entered the free-swimming stage and the Sire was removed.

12/12/21: The fry are now 4-weeks old and starting to color up. I am very excited to see both steel blue and royal blue based fish in this spawn. This means that the genotype of the male is metallic royal blue based!

05/02/22: Breeding solid colored fish is quite a challenge these days! Based on the results of this spawn and the F2 I got using the same father x his sister, I strongly suspect that the grandfather of the father of this spawn genetically has not been a solid colored fish.
